Truths I've Learned by Pastor Zac Poonen

In these series of sermons, Pastor Zac Poonen outlines some truths that he has learned in his many years as a Christian.  I was originally going to call this article, "OUCH!" and once you hear the sermon, you will likely know why.

As always, he has a way of explaining in very straightforward terms key principles of the Christian faith which are sure to feed your spirit and encourage you in the journey.
  • God loves us as much as He loves Jesus.
  • God delights in honest people.
  • God delights in cheerful givers and not things done by compulsion.
  • We must treat every human being with dignity.
  • Holiness comes by looking on to Jesus.
  • What it means to "take up our cross" daily.
  • The world's opinions of us - whether good or bad - are fit for the trash can.
  • We must be continually filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • The test which should be applied to any "truth" is does it make you more free?  Free from the world, from sin, from people, from tradition, etc.
  • This world's values are the opposite of God's values.
  • Nobody can harm us except we ourselves.
  • Knowing God intimately is the secret to being strong.
  • God has a solution for every single problem you have.
  • God has got a perfect plan for each of our lives.
  • The new covenant is far superior to the old covenant.  What was external in the old becomes inward in the new.
  • We will be rejected and persecuted by the world.
  • There is no pre-tribulation rapture.
  • God will supply all of your needs.
  • We must receive all whom God has received.

  2. Thanks for your refreshing and energizing and Scriptural comments. You are the wave of the future. You might enjoy Googling "Pretrib Rapture Secrecy" and "Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty" - both by the MacPherson who has written the bestselling book "The Rapture Plot" (the now revealed secretive and occultic beginning of the pretrib rapture view which I obtained at Armageddon Books). May the Lord reward you for your bravery and faithfulness. Bill

  3. Hi Bill,

I thought Pastor Poonen thoroughly dismissed the pre-trip rapture notion in just two texts.

The text which is commonly referred to as describing the rapture:

"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

And Jesus' text about His second coming:

"Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." Matthew 24:29-31

Clearly, these are the same events, and it happens after the tribulation of those days.

As Pastor Poonen states, I believe such teachings have done great harm in preparing Christians for that which is coming upon us.

  6. After knowing Brother Zac Poonen since birth, for the last 24 years, he does not like to be called "Pastor". He loves to be called a "Brother" of Jesus Christ. He considers that to be a greater honor.

    -In Christ's love
