Throughout the churchworld, there is an increasing number of professing Christians who not only celebrate Easter (which is really Ishtar), but also take part in a season called Lent which precedes it.
Etymology of the word "Easter"
O.E. Eastre (Northumbrian Eostre), from P.Gmc. *Austron, a goddess of fertility and sunrise whose feast was celebrated at the spring equinox, from *austra-, from PIE *aus- "to shine" (especially of the dawn). Bede says Anglo-Saxon Christians ADOPTED her name and many of the celebratory practices for their Mass of Christ's resurrection.
Yet, how many of those who participate in these "holy days" truly understand what they are celebrating or where these religious rites originated? How many know that the 40 days of Lent are the 40 days of weeping for Tammuz?
