What About Pledging?

Should Christians Join Fraternities & Sororities?

"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him." Deuteronomy 13:6-8

As we continue delving into Babylon, it is fitting that we examine how our young people are being initiated into the mystery religions via pledging to fraternities and sororities. In a nutshell, these organizations are occult societies because they are secret, exclusive organizations open only to the initiated.

Occult: That which is done in secret; disclosed or communicated only to the initiated;
hidden from view; of or pertaining to magic, astrology, or any system claiming use
or knowledge of secret or supernatural powers or agencies.

Christ does nothing in secret and He says that all things which are hidden shall be brought to the light. Neither is Christianity exclusive, but is open to all who will place faith in Jesus.  Consider this as well. What does it mean to be initiated? An initiation is the ceremonies or rituals of admission. A ritual is an established or prescribed procedure for a religious and spiritual rite.

As with all aspects of Babylon, it promotes the deception that you can be made acceptable by God through your "good works" even while being filled with unrighteousness within.  Yet Jesus let us know that if we are spiritually unclean, then our outward works mean nothing (Luke 11:38-39).  Participating in community service efforts, helping further youth education, raising funds for charities and doing other good works does not mean that God will ignore us pledging our obedience and dedication to false gods (Matthew 7:21-23).

So listed below are two video series which I pray will enlighten you on this topic.  The first video examines these societies own words to see how they promote false god worship.  The second is a former insider's reflection on Greek life. While these videos specifically deal with experiences in the Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs), the pattern of oaths and rituals as well as the foundation of these organizations in pagan mystery religions, are the same for all.

This video series identifies the pagan gods which are venerated by each of the BGLO.  In this series, Bro. David simply breaks it down.  There is simply no way one can deny that these organizations indoctrinate their members into false god worship because they openly admit it.  Watch this video to hear what they have to say for themselves.  There are ten videos in this series and you can skip among them by clicking on the arrows on either side of the video screen.
  • How these organizations are founded upon idolatry
  • Which false gods are venerated by each society?
  • Examines these organizations' own bylaws, crests, symbols, and rituals to see how they promote worship to false gods...according to their own words!
  • How the image of baphomet is routinely incorporated into their worship rituals
  • How tattoos and brands are pagan dedication rituals
  • Why the oath of secrecy is an integral part of these groups and a cover for darkness
  • What are the spiritual realities behind pledging oaths?
  • What is the "brotherhood of man" and is it Godly?
  • What are the curses from adopting the practices and philosophies of fallen cultures (i.e. Greece & Kemet)
  • How to get free from these curses if you have pledged allegiance to these organizations and the false gods which undergird them
  • Prayer of deliverance

The video series below is from the perspective of Helene, who is an ex-soror, as she shares an insider's viewpoint on what it is like to belong to these Greek Societies:
  • How the Pledging Rituals Are Similar to Voodoo Rituals
  • How the 'public face' of these organizations is manufactured for recruitment purposes
  • What is Initiation?
  • What it means to be "on line"
  • Crossing the Burning Sands
  • Pinning Ceremony
  • What is Hell Night?
  • Oaths which must be made to pagan Greek & Egyptian gods as part of the pledging process
  • What is Skating?
  • Is Hazing still a standard part of the process?
  • What does the skull and crossswords symbolize?
  • How the Boule is the equivalent of the Skull & Bones society, but is used to keep African-Americans indoctrinated into occult philosophy and controllable.
  • Why is branding done?
  • How these societies are very similar to Freemason and the Eastern Star organizations
  • What does it mean to be a Legacy?
  • The expectation of sexual promiscuity and fornication

  1. I have watched the series with Helene awhile back. It is obvious, even looking from the outside, that something is wrong with these groups.

What troubles me is that there are "Christian" fraternities and sororities that are arising. Just before I graduated from college some young ladies started Alpha Lambda Omega (ALO). By this time I was so turned off by the Greek stuff that this did not even appeal to me. I hate how so called Christians seek to replicate of the world like this. Almost as if to say, we don't want to engage in their worldly practices with them but lets do the same things over here in our little corner.

I have even seen churches that have their own brand of Greek Lettered Organizations. Makes no sense!

    2. I had renounced AKA years ago as God showed me what we were doing spiritually. He said crossing the burning sands was like going through the fire. It's a sacrifice like that of the children going through the fire as a sacrifice to Molech.

    3. You said something when you said THAT!!! That is awesome information! Crossing the sands is like crossing the fire of sacrifice!!! #Molech!!! Wow knowledge IS power!!! That is Gid said MY ppl perish because they do not KNOW!!! Knowing is half the battle, the other half is understanding!!! Ppl do things so blindly because of wanting to fit in due to rejection... Thank God for His grace and some know to denounce!

  2. I had considered pledging when in college, but i could never understand why someone had to degrade me and abuse me in order for me to earn the right to call them "sister". That just seemed off to me. Of course, I am so happy that God never let me go forward with that.

Yes, I have seen video on Juanita Bynum's ministry with its "church" sororities and fraternities. There is a clip of it in the video on this page. It is truly shameful.

It never ceases to amaze me how Babylon has to continue to keep the people engaged in some sort of shenanigans so that they will feel "deep", "spiritual", and "exclusive".

Our God is One who does everything in the light and He also makes us to be light. Why would such a one then turn to darkness? As the days wind down, I sure hope people turn away from all foolishness and idolatry.

  3. I too considered pledging when I was in college. I decided not to do it and I'm so glad about that desicion now. It would have one more stronghold to fight off.

  4. I also had my time where i almost joined a fraternity (alpha phi alpha), but prayer opened my eyes. I found these very same videos about 10 months ago, and continue to pass them along to other of my fellow college peers. Its sad to see some of them who totally disregard the truth!!

But also its amazing of the culture of the true church. I remember there was a time when i thought i was alone. Then i found g. craig lewis, then it led me to worshiping jesus, then that led me to omega ministry, and etc.

Its so sad to see young people my age fall into satan's traps!! Please lets continue to pray consistently for their salvation.

  5. AMEN Walking With Christ! It does no good just to sit and talk about what is wrong. May we continue to pray for folks to be delivered and set free.

  6. I almost pledged one of these organizations while in undergrad school but could not go through with it. Later, I tried to pledge grad chapter and again could not go through with it. I now know that it was the Lord who kept me from pledging myself to these organizations and other gods. I thank the Lord for His protection and revelation.

  7. Thank you sis for this video.

I find the timing of this post to be incredibly ironic for many reasons. I am doing a series on YouTube right now about my involvement with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority as a Christian. It is time for people to know why these orgs stand in direct opposition to the kingdom of God and Jesus Christ.

May God bless all those who hear.

  8. Hi Set Free Indeed,

I didn't know that you had joined the AKA sorority. This article was actually written because there is a beautiful young lady who asked my husband and I about referring her to some AKA sorors as she looks into getting letters of support for her interest in pledging.

I know many who belong to sororities and fraternities and don't perceive why these organizations stand against God, so thank you so much for sharing your testimony. I would like to post those on the blog as well.

God bless you and I pray that you are doing well in the Lord!

  9. Well, unlike some of those who have commented before me, I actually did pledge one of the historically black fraternities of the NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council).
Fortunately, I did not complete the process for two reasons (very summarized).
#1 - As the pledging process continued, I began to feel an ever-increasing sense of discomfort and anxiety/foreboding with what I was doing. At times, I thought it was just fear about what they would do to me the next night we were pledged (we were often hazed). Some nights involved less hazing, which did bring some relief, but the feeling never quite went away.
#2 - There were things that I personally observed, participated in, and were told to memorize/learn that I found to be contradictory to what this fraternal organization CLAIMED to stand for. I noticed so many convoluted/twisted aspects of this experience - even at my naive age of 18/19 yrs old, and WITHOUT a serious commitment to Christ at the time.

For example, this fraternity's motto is "Brotherhood. Scholarship. Service". It was this motto that, to me, separated this organization from the others. They all promised wild parties, women, and professional networking opportunities, but I was looking for something that fit me as I also want to serve others, succeed academically, and be a part of a 'brotherhood'. However, this is not what I saw. The fraternity 'stood' for "Brotherhood", yet I heard and witnessed so much dissension and animosity between members of the fraternity. "Scholarship"?...yet the very 'brothers' in my chapter were involved in "hiring" classmates to do their class projects/homework. And "Service" was almost non-existent. Sure, I saw photos on the official website of some frat members at charity events where they apparently played a part in serving. I've even read about their 'sister sorority' and their efforts in various charity and non-profit initiatives. But I didn't SEE anything 'service' related on my campus! Sure, it was going on elsewhere...somewhere...but why weren't WE participating? Why weren't those who were pledging US doing anything? If 'service' is a part of the organization's motto, why is it so obscure on our campus? And, most of all, why weren't WE, the pledgees, NOT being made to participate in any service-oriented initiatives AT ALL?
Another major 'inconsistency' involved a contract that I was to sign once I finished the pledge process. With my signature, this contract would stipulate, among other things, that there was NO HAZING WHATSOEVER during the pledge process. My 'line brothers' and I were shown this contract weeks before we would have to sign it. When I read it, I knew right then it was a lie because we were actively being hazed. There was a major conflict within me regarding just that alone.
All of the nights that we were pledged or hazed were full of inconsistent and flippant 'lessons', degrading acts, memorizing the credentials of frat members, chanting and reciting strange oaths (the meanings of which I never actually considered until YEARS later), eating whole raw onions, enduring mind games, dodging fists and slaps, being hit and the butt with paddles, etc etc. At a bird's eye perspective, it was pointless - that is, when compared to what is read on the official website and the reasons that I wanted to join.

After ensuring 5 weeks of emotional turmoil, that weird sense of anxiety and foreboding eventually overcame me and I called the 'dean' [the frat member in charge of the pledgees] and quit. Once I did that, I immediately felt like SO MUCH weight had been lifted off of me. It was a very tangible feeling. I would later find out in life that such a feeling (anxiety and foreboding...following by relief and peace once a wise decision has been made) is God's way of saving you from doing something in which YOU had NO idea what you were getting into. At the time, I knew nothing about "idol worship" or "demonic" influences and what it looked like. I was young and just wanted to do whatever I needed to do to be a part of something. I was okay with chanting weird chants, oaths, adopting funny-looking symbols and the like as long as I could wear those three greek letters and be one of them. I had NO idea what I was REALLY doing. However, even in my ignorance, I knew SOMEthing wasn't right.

  12. As I was doing my "research" to join a sorority for the upcoming school year, the holy spirit lead me here. I was recently baptized and asked God to order my steps and here I am spending all night looking at these videos to reveal the truth. I am glad that God kept me fron my selfish ways and from allowing me to become a part of one of these organizations. I was kept from so many things when God allowed me not to have enough money to complete my process. I wanted to join for all of the wrong reasons. Fleshly desires to belong and a strong sense of pride. God has kept me from bondage of these organizations and for that I am so thankful but most of my friends are in a fraternity or sorority and now I must not fellowship with darkness. I now have the truth. Thank You so much for unveiling the truth.

  13. Well hindsight is 20/20 as the saying goes. I pledged 2 "honorary" fraternities back in college (Grambling), to me they are basically the same. You go through the same pledging and initiation process. These videos have convicted me to the point that I know I need to renounce. I may even have to deactivate my facebook account, because I have just about all of my frats and sorors on their, and other former collegiates that sport their BGLO.

    1. Hi Steve,

I am very thankful that the Holy Spirit had you take the message to heart. That is a good thing!

In terms of Facebook, it may not be that easy. These are obviously relationships you have built that extend well beyond Facebook. Just pray and ask the Lord what to do. He may not tell you to to end those relationships, but that covenant made with Greek organizations is so strong that they may not want a relationship with you once you denounce.

Also, keep in mind that this is not just about you breaking idolatrous ties. What about the eternal destiny of those with whom you have been friends? What if God wants to use you as an example to bring them closer to Him as well?

Lastly, you will likely need to get rid of all that Greek paraphernalia. Ask the Lord to show you what to get rid of in order to spiritually break ties with those spirits.

Lastly, here is a book you might want to consider reading: Soul Ties

It is not specifically about Greek orgs, but the principles reviewed in the book are completely relevant.
