Christian Entertainment - An Evangelical Heresy

Thoughts from A.W. Tozer

The video below highlights a sermon from A.W. Tozer on the use of entertainment to win believers to Jesus Christ. It is well worth watching.

A few excerpts from this sermon are also noted below.

"The church which can't worship must be entertained."

"The desire for surface stimulation is the mark of the sinful nature. Baptized worldlings wanting a religious needle to give them a lift is not true Christianity."

"Any objection to today's 'golden calf Christianity' is met with the reply, "But we are winning them!" Winning them to what? True discipleship? Self-denial? Holy living? Total commitment to Jesus?"

"Our pitiful efforts to make Christianity acceptable is an effort worse than wasted. We cannot afford to let down our Christian standards just to interest people who want to go to Hell and still belong to the church."

  1. This was a wonderful video, thank you! I have spoken about churches which rely on "song and dance" instead of scripture. When the mimes come out and the praise dancers, I check out because I don't believe that God requires all of that to get His message across. The message is simple: Jesus Christ and His salvation; worship Him in spirit and in truth. Thanks again Sister, I am sending this video forward!
