Sweet Nothings

Babylon's Open Arms

"Sweet Nothings" is an interesting phrase.  It is often used in reference to something that is meant to be endearing, but is actually very shallow.  Sweet nothings are said for the purpose of making us feel good, but the words have no substance behind them; they are meaningless. It is in essence a flattering, heart-warming lie.

In the video below, a young woman presents a message which is filled with sweet nothings.  Her words (and the accompanying "Christian" music) are designed to pull on the emotions, but have no basis in truth.   Yet, what she presents has fast become the rule of thumb for most churches and the prevailing doctrine of many professing believers.  The problem is, while it may sound good, it is a doctrine of devils.

"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding...To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead." Proverbs 2:1-2, 16-18

"My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother...For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life." Proverbs 6:20, 23-26

"My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye...That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words...And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner...With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him...Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death." Proverbs 7:1-2, 5, 10-12, 21, 27

Who is the strange woman referred to in these texts?  It is not the woman in the video below, it is the religious harlot named Babylon.  I did not post the full texts of these chapters so as to not make the article too long, though there is more to be understood from just what is posted here.  However, notice how this woman is described.

The woman is strange, meaning that she is a whore.  She will be intimate with anyone who advances her cause; she has no discretion.  Her heart is filled with subtlety & deceit; it is the heart of a serpent (Genesis 3:1).  She knows of God's covenant, but has walked away from it.  She is beautiful...to the flesh.  It is the lusts in man which make her appear to be appealing & attractive.  She is a seductress, who actively hunts for victims.  With quiet charm or unrelenting insistence, she exerts spiritual force to lure people into her traps.  She is on every corner, just as we see with many churches today.  Her ways lead to death.

There is one thing we need to understand.  Babylon is attractive to our flesh, and she is on the prowl.  If there is any part of our flesh that has not been crucified, she will be enticing to us with her smooth sayings.  When we are drawn away by our own lusts, Babylon is there for us, ready to whisper sweet nothings into our itching ears in order to comfort & feed our flesh.

"And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts." Galatians 5:24

We spoke before about how people are going into apostasy in droves.  Well, many of these folks are not outright denying Jesus; rather, they are rushing into Babylon's open arms.

There is one continued protection cited to keep us from this harlot and that is the word of God.  In these days where the Lord tells us that deception will be extremely high, we need to meditate more in the word of God than we ever have before.  What combats a lie, but the truth?  This is why one of the first things that Babylon has to do in order to ensnare you is keep you from the word of God, deny its authority, or pervert its meaning.  Stay far away (in terms of fellowship) from those who do not honor God's word, because the Lord honors His word even above His name (Psalm 138:2).

"And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits." Daniel 11:32

Do you truly know the God you claim to serve?  Ask the Lord to give you a heart for the truth, an ear to hear it, and a will to submit to it for deception is high.  Pray for those such as this young woman so that God would bring them to the knowledge of the true Gospel and give them new life in Him.  The best that religion can make you into is a hypocrite.  True life may only be found in Jesus Christ.  May God keep us in these times of darkness.

  1. Wow LD! Did you you know brother Joseph Herrin has this SAME VIDEO on his blog today? I haven't even read his yet but I scanned through his post and he did a video as well in the same fashion as this young lady. God is too awesome, I actually saw this video right after I submitted to Christ and started to rid my house of the mess and I was just shaking my head and thinking how this message wasn't right.

    1. HI GIJane02,

Yes, I saw Joseph's post and after seeing the video, I posted it here. :-)

In no way should Christians be hypocrites or treat others with disdain. Yet that is not the same as standing for truth. Those who really love you will tell you the truth because we know how we were before the Lord saved us and we have compassion on those who are lost. May God move our hearts with compassion enough to stand for the truth, even when it is not popular.

      Be well Sis!

  2. I understand how this can give people who don´t know the whole counsel of God a mistaken impression of the Christian life because it overemphasizes love. Love is one part of obedience but it not thing only thing.

    1. Hi Margaret,

Part of the problem as well is that people have and present (as was done here) a perverted concept of love. They present as if their portrayal of God is love ad the Biblical portrayal is not. It is really a different God they describe and not the character or will of the Father at all. We can know this because what they put forth is in direct opposition to the Scriptures...and at odds with His Spirit.

The Lord cared enough for us to sacrifice his life, be tortured, and die on our behalf. If He is willing to go through such lengths to free us from sin, do people really think He would not confront the sin in our lives and the lives of others? Why is it loving for Jesus to die for our sins, but unloving for Him to apply that sacrifice to our lives by delivering us from the sin we are in? Pay the price for my sin, but don't talk to me about sin? How very selfish, yet, this is people's mindset. It is unfortunate, but in order to help these and others, we must keep ourselves pure from such garbage.

      Hope you are well!

  3. I agree with Margaret. :) These days "accepting" others no matter what gets you more "likes". It is much harder to be a "separate people" to be "in the world but not of the world". It got Jesus killed because He did it better than we do. If we did it like He did none of us would last very long here. That's just how this world is. "Greater love hath no man than this: that he lays down his life for his friends".

    1. Hi Susan,

It sure will! As you stated, it was the same in Jesus' day. The "popular" side was to espouse solidarity with the religious leaders who actually hated God.

You said, "If we did it like He did none of us would last very long here." To that I say, "AMEN!!!" After all, that is the point now isn't it?

"Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" II Peter 3:11-12

It reminds me of I John 4:17:

"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world."

Our love is made perfect when we are in the world as He is. When we not just only talking about Jesus, but have been transformed into His image so that we indeed are His hands and feet...and mouth. :-)

      Thanks for posting!

    3. I work in a hospital, and there are some that work there that are openly gay, or otherwise sexually promiscuous. I want to say that there is forgiveness for these and many other sins available through Jesus, but if I say it I know they would have me fired. I know that work is not the place to have a pulpit, so if any of them ever ask me about such things (which they haven't up to now) I will give them my phone # and tell them that I'd be glad to talk with them on our "free" (away from work) time. Then I would PRAY PRAY PRAY, for Jesus to help me say the right words that may spark repentance in them. If they decide that I'm not worth having as a "friend", that's ok. If the only friend I have in this world is Jesus, that is one more friend than I actually deserve, and He is THE MOST TRUE FRIEND we could ever have. His word tells the truth about who is allowed into His kingdom but He says most people love this world more than they love Him so they won't be there. The ones who hate the flesh and the things of this world, He will forgive and cleanse and make ready to be with Him. A true friend will tell others how to be friends with Jesus. :) It's simple and yet it is very difficult, because He does it, and we want to do it. We want to get the credit. He alone is worthy of praise, not us. We only fail, unless it is He doing the doing in us.

    4. Hi Susan,

I understand. When we are at work, we are being paid to do a job and employers will usually not hesitate to fire or at least reprimand someone who is accused of creating a hostile work environment. When I am at work, I understand that I am at work.

While I don't spend my time on a pulpit when I am working, I can say that there have been times when the Holy Spirit has moved me to speak while on the job. I have ministered to those who report to me. I have ministered to others in the presence and hearing of my boss. I have even ministered to clients when visiting for quarterly meetings.

Yet, I understand only too well what you have shared. When I have done these things, Satan has whispered in my ear, "You are going to lose your job." Yet, each time I decided that if I lose it, I lose it. If God was leading me to speak, then I would. I am not disagreeing with you or telling anyone what to do. I am just saying that, in my experience, sometimes people need a word right then and there and we can trust the Lord to protect us in our obedience to Him. If God ever does lead you in that way at work, I just want to encourage you or anyone else that He will cover you.

One more thing is that I would often pray over my workplace each day, walking through the place and anointing it while praying for the people and binding forces of darkness. As we intercede for those we work with, God can open a door for us to establish a relationship with them so that we are in a better place to share the love of God with them. One time there was a boss I had that I just did not like. She tried to make my life miserable. As I was complaining about her once, the Lord asked me, "Have you prayed for her?" Well, my answer was no. Then He told me I had no right to complain if I wasn't interceding for her. A lot of what we see with people who are difficult to get along with is a person in bondage, and we must have hearts that are more concerned with their souls than our flesh.

Anyway, I have been rambling a bit here - and most of what was said was not specific to you, but may it help others.

      Have a good evening!
